Gambit earned a spot at the Major in Cologne next month after beating G2, 16 – 10, in a fairly uncontested match on Train.
Gambit were the first team to make a move, with Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov getting three kills in the pistol round, after which the CIS side were able to also bag the following two.
The first gun round would also go Gambit’s way, as G2 were unable to stop an execute on the B bomb site as the Russian side got into a 5 vs. 3 after plant situation and then closed the round without much trouble.
It was finally at the beginning of the sixth round, after Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro was able to get the two first entry frags of the round that the French team would be able to mark a tally on the scoresheet.
The French team weren’t able to keep the momentum going, though, and Gambit started to run away with the game, forcing G2 into a loop of financial trouble throughout the half. G2 finally got another round on the board thanks to another double entry, this time by Cédric "RpK" Guipouy, and turning the financial situation around, forcing Gambit to go on the defensive.
spaze is proving to have been a solid pick-up by Gambit
Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom had a providential round on the fourteenth, getting four headshots as G2 looked for a way to redeem themselves going into the half behind 6 – 9. A solid hold on the inside site by G2, particularly by Rustem "mou" Telepov and Dmitry "hooch" Bogdanov, who won a 2 vs. 3, meant the Russian team would be able to stay in the driving seat for the next few rounds.
Gambit were able to win the first buy round of the half, too, putting themselves up 13 – 6, but G2 held on by rushing ivy with tec9s and overpowering the CTs holding outside. Gambit wouldn’t let that lost round stop them and won the following round.
G2 then bought two AWPs, one Desert Eagle, and two Tec9s, in one of the strangest buys seen this LAN. The strategy seemed to bear fruits, though, as picks by Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux and Richard "shox" Papillon put the French team with a two man advantage, eventually closing out the round and forcing their opponents into an eco round.
Gambit stopped the comeback on its tracks, however, tallying their 15th round thanks to three entry frags by Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev, giving themselves five match points. The Russian side would only need the next round, however, earning themselves a spot at the Major by closing it out 16 – 10.
